A Champion for Hillsborough County

Patricia Alonzo is the daughter of a union mechanic and a self-employed hairdresser. She’s lived in Northern Hillsborough County for more than two decades with her family. In that time, she has sat by countless hospital bedsides, helping people get the care they need. Patricia has worked as a medical translator, as an ASL teacher at Middleton High School, and most recently as an executive at a tech startup.

In her time as an ASL and Spanish-language interpreter for Moffitt Cancer Center, Patricia helped families navigate bureaucracies in the most challenging circumstances. She then worked with tech companies to use video and mobile technology to expand interpretation capabilities for hospitals and other organizations. In her work, Patricia has seen institutions fail people when they needed it the most and she’s seen institutions provide critical support that made the difference between life and death. She wants to make sure every family in our community gets the support they need to thrive.

Patricia is close with her large family and values their time together. Her upbringing instilled in her the values of hard work, authenticity, inclusivity, and the importance of caring for one’s neighbors.  In her spare time she continues to volunteer at Moffitt, helping kids and women at Faces of Courage, Metropolitan Ministries, and building homes for the Women’s Build at Habitat for Humanity.

About District 2

Hillsborough County Commission District 2 covers the Northern portion of Hillsborough County, including New Tampa, Carrollwood, Lutz, Temple Terrace, and the University of South Florida. This newly-redrawn district is much more blue than the previous District 2.

Registration is evenly divided between Democrats and Republicans, but the voters here have consistently voted for Democratic candidates up and down the ballot. As the Democratic nominee for District 2, Patricia is enacting a proven gameplan to win independent voters, turn out Democrats, and win on November 5th.

If you’d like to refocus the County Commission on listening to the people and working for all residents of Hillsborough County, Patricia would love to have you on the team. The county budget is $9 billion and we deserve a Commission who will invest that money in our community instead of simply spending it.
